Thoughts to live by - The Truth is a PersonBy Nelita Fonseca

The truth is a Person

“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

There are many voices in the religious world today, and as born again believers, we worry about what the truth really is. Because we do not want to be caught in any false doctrine or teaching, we are constantly on guard, and prefer to take refuge and stand in our special collection of scriptures that prove our denomination or the doctrine we follow. With that type of mind set, what we are really saying is that we believe in certain things or facts because we have specific scriptures to confirm or back up what we believe. However, it’s not WHAT we believe that really matters, but in WHOM we believe. In his letter to Timothy, our brother Paul uses these wonderful words: “For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to him until that day.” 2Tim 1:12

Have you noticed that the apostle says; whom I have believed and not what I have believed? What a glorious fact.

If the believer wants to grow in the things of God by allowing the Holy Spirit to lead him/her into what the Word calls of “all truth,” he/she will soon find out that the truth is not a collection of scriptures to prove any belief or doctrinal point, but in fact a Person and that Person is Christ. Jesus Himself said:

“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

You may ask me; what about the scriptures? Well, they only testify of Him who is the truth, and wants to be the believer’s ALL.

“You search the scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life; and these (the scriptures) are they which testify of me. But you are not willing to come to me that you may have life” John 5:39, 40.

We must never confuse the truth-Christ with any doctrine or creed because it is only when we see Him in the scriptures that we have life and we are set free...

John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” In other words, you shall know Christ, and Christ will set you free.

John 8:36 “Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

In his letter to the Ephesians our brother Paul makes a clear illustration of the Person of Christ when he describes the armour of God for the believer’s protection against Satan.

Eph 6:11“Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand against the wiles of the devil.”

If you pay close attention, you will notice that every piece of the armour describes the Person of Christ. “Therefore take up the whole armour of God that you may be able to withstand in evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth (Christ John 8:32) having put on the breastplate of righteousness (Christ 1Cor 1:30) and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Christ Eph 2:14) above all take the shield of faith (Christ Gal2:20 Pistis Gk-the faithfulness of Christ) with which you may be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation (Christ Rom 5:10) and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Christ John 1:1).”Eph 6:13-17

Are you seeing Jesus in these scriptures dear friend? What the Apostle Paul was actually saying here is that the believer should put on Christ in his defence against the strategies of Satan.

Isn’t this glorious? May our eyes be opened to this Christ that has all along been in us ever since we believed, and may we learn that He is all we really need!

In Christ our all.†
